Tommy was hilarious and his crew were so organised and helpful. We meet some lovely people and got to enjoy a feast at the end, plus a recipe book to take home for future cook ups!! Can’t wait!!Most authentic and fun cooking classHands down the best most authentic cooking experience in Bali! This cooking class is out of the chefs beautiful home. It was so organized and her and her staff were so friendly and helpful. It was so fun and the best tasting Balinese cooking class. They arrange pick up and drop off at your hotel. We met some really awesome people there from all over the world which just added to the experience. No need to search anymore, this is it! Fun morning cooking classHad one of my more memorable experiences in Bali taking a cooking class on the final day. We started with a tour of the market then went to the restaurant where we had instruction in making 12 different Balinese dishes. Tommy, our instructor, kept things interesting and fun throughout the morning and the food turned out pretty delicious. Like that we get a cookbook at the cooking class SeminyakNia cooking class Seminyak was the best experience, my husband and I learnt a lot from Tommy the chef, he’s fun and very knowledgeable about his craft. Visited the market before we start the class. Food was delicious, flavours amazing. You meet people from other parts of the world. All in all a great experience and I would highly recommend Tommy’s cooking busy airport. You will have to buy visa. Don't rely on Amex only!!! They don't take Amex. Only Visa, Master or any cash. I had learn it the hard wayMy friend and I had a marvelous time. She was very unsure she would enjoy it, but she did.!! Tommy was informative, funny, and extremely knowledgeable. Want to know what an executive chef thinks about this one?I am an executive chef with 20 years of experience. Food is, of course, a major part of my vacation in Bali. This cooking class did not disappoint. Chef Tommy is a master of his craft and broke down everything systematically, culturally, and put everything into perspective to everyone in the class no matter where they came from. He related to individuals with such keen knowledge and understanding and broke the course down to where you can feel where the passion and roots of the cuisine grew - from the different types of gingers/galangal to even -why- their coconut oil kicks a$$ more than the western counterparts. Needless to say, from the novice home cook to even the highest level of culinary echelons, anyone and everyone can learn from this class. It was fun. It was funny. And it was fantastic. I am a better chef after this one for food, not too expensive. Very kind and serviceminded food, good vegetarian options as well. Go for the local beer Bintang, and the local dishes. My children aged 13 and 16 specially enjoyed the hot chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream desert The teachers here are amazing, sweet and funny! The food was delicious and authentic, plus we got a cook book to take home, and I’m excited to make some of these recipes for my family! Highly recommend this class!! So nice we've been here twice! This is both a fabulous cooking class A great experience and a wonderful lunch. The little market tour introduces you to what you'll be using for cooking and will certainly get you to a place that you wouldn't go to otherwise. Then the cooking and the fun begins with everybody joining in and so many dishes prepared that everyone's going to take charge of at least one of them. Our chef Tommy was quite the character too. Excellent work, thanks Tommy. At the end of the day this whole experience, including being picked up from our Villa, cost us what we would have spent for lunch and the lunches.. oh my God... AMAZING The time was too short than I expected. The therapy time didn’t match from the menu. Shower time should be exclude from the therapy time. Ninety minutes therapy was done in seventy minutes. There was no privacy for the costumers since the door kept opening. The waiting time was too long. The massagers should prepare the therapy items first. What a fun and cultural experience! Our instructor, Tommy, was so much fun, and taught us about several traditional ingredients and dishes. I am vegan, and although there is a vegan class, I was unable to attend it, so they graciously accommodated me into the non-vegan class, putting single portions aside for me to cook along with the others, which I truly appreciate!! Thank you so much Warung Nia for this lovely experience! The whole experience was awesome from a visit to the market first - smelling & learning about our ingredients to preparation & ultimately eating the amazing food we prepared in groups- so much fun….& we got a little souvenir cookbook- well worth it - thank you One of the best cooking classes I have had an amazing time and learnt so many dishes, our teacher was very funny and made the whole experience so much fun. Definitely recommend this cooking class! My husband and I had loads of fun with chef Tommy and the group on our cooking class. Starting at the local market then on to a fantastic equipped outdoor kitchen Tommy took us thru about 12 Indonesian dishes. It was fun and Tommy was a perfect fit with his great personality and professional cooking skills. So, sit back and relax with a hot cup while you take in the breathtaking views. 1. Mount Batur Sunrise TrekkingThe active volcano Mount Batur, also known as Gunung Batur, was formed over 25,000 years ago and rises high above the surrounding landscapes, reaching 1717 m. The best time to appreciate the stunning views is at sunrise, when a sea of pink and orange clouds can be seen floating far the clouds clear, you can also see endless valleys carpeted in lush green jungle dotted with tiny villages and the beautiful Lake Batur. On a clear day, you can even see as far as Lombok Island out in the Bali Sea. It’s worth every yawn of that early morning start!Other interesting things to look out for from the mountain are the black lava fields far below created by the 1968 eruption of the volcano. As you reach the summit, you may also notice the crater rim has small crevices with rising hot steam. Some of the locals use these to cook eggs as a mid-trek snack!Tip Watch out for the cheeky wild monkeys looking to steal your best time to hike Mount Batur is in April-October, when there is the best visibility. You will need a warm jacket, good hiking shoes, plenty of water and snacks, and your camera! Bringing your own headlamp is useful if you have one, but your guide should provide one. How Long Does it Take to Climb Mount Batur? It takes two hours to reach the summit, depending on your fitness level, making it roughly four hours in total. Leave some extra time at the top to enjoy the views and catch your breath. Most tour companies will pick you up at around 2 AM, leaving plenty of time to drive to the start point and trek up the mountain in time for you are staying in Kintamani village, you can walk to the volcano. This is a great option if you want a slightly later start!2. Batur Natural Hot SpringThe Batur Natural Hot Spring is a series of man-made pools that are heated geothermally by underground magma. The volcanic minerals in the natural spring water are great for your skin and relaxing your muscles – making it the perfect place to soak after your early morning hike. The water cools as it comes to the surface, so it is the perfect temperature for bathing 40°C / 105°F. Come to Batur Natural Hot Springs to relax outside in the crystal-clear infinity pools; it’s one of the top things to do in Batur! This resort also offers spa treatments 300k IDR / 20 USD entry.3. Pura Segara Ulun Pura Segara Ulun is a beautiful floating temple on Lake Batur, accessed by a small bridge that crosses the water. Bali has many water temples, but this is one of the hidden gems! The authentic Hindu shrine is a very peaceful place to visit after a hectic morning of trekking. It also has a view of the volcano, so you can fully take in how far you’ve climbed. Impressive at any time of day, it is particularly serene at sunrise, when the water is calm, and there is a stunning reflection of the temple on the golden lake. Come and breathe in the cool mountain air, marvel at the beautiful fountain statues, and listen to the soft calls of the swans swimming close by. Did you know? This peaceful Hindu temple is similar to Ulun Danu Bratan on your way to Munduk, but without the crowds! The price is free, but we recommend giving a donation. You can rent a sarong 10,000 IDR / USD if you need to cover up your shoulders and Pinggan SunrisePinggan is a rural farming village on a mountain ridge that overlooks Mount Batur, offering spectacular views of the mountain at sunrise. Seeing the Pinggan Sunrise is a relaxed early morning alternative to the two-hour hike up Mount Batur. From the ridge, which faces east, there are countless places to catch the sun coming up behind the volcano. You’ll see the valley below covered in a sea of magical clouds, and access to the viewpoints is free! Try the popular Sukawana Sunrise Spot or the Pinggan Sunrise View. Alternatively, there are plenty of natural viewpoints or bamboo platforms where you can take in the spectacular natural scenery with no one else Cafes with a ViewThere are plenty of cute cafes on the mountain ridges that have incredible views of Mount Batur and the black lava savanna below. Sip on a cup of locally-grown coffee, grab a freshly-made pastry, and look out over one of the best views in Bali! Our favorite cafe was Paperhills which has great food and even better drinks, with fantastic coffee and juice options. On the same street, there are loads of lovely cafes where you can buy coffee and pastries. Alternatively, head for one of the restaurants for something more filling, all with spectacular views of the volcano. Other nice spots we also enjoyed were El Lago and Kintamani Coffee. 6. Visit a Coffee PlantationVisiting a coffee plantation is one of the top things to do in Batur, Kintamani! The fertile grounds beneath the volcano due to volcanic ash and cooler mountain climate has made the area around Batur the perfect place to grow coffee. Spend a few hours learning about the coffee-making process and tasting delicious local brews at one of the many plantations close to the mountain. Coffee Tours in BaturYou can have amazing tasting experiences, however, we recommend to skip the notorious Luwak coffee. Kopi Luwak is made from coffee beans that have been partially digested by civets a nocturnal mammal. It is one of the most expensive coffees in the world, mainly because it takes time and labor to scavenge for the limited supply of wild civet poop. For this reason, some coffee farms have started caging animals to enable mass production. Also, be aware of the trick that Luwak coffee sold are mixed with regular coffee an estimated 80% of Luwak coffee is actually fake and made from normal blends. However, you are still charged crazy prices! We think that the usual kind of Balinese coffee that hasn’t passed through an animal is just as delicious, so don’t waste your money on Kopi choose to do a tour at an organic, family-owned plantation like Bali Cafes & Restaurants in BaturThere are loads of cozy cafe options in Batur, most of which have their own roastery and offer locally grown coffee with fantastic views of the volcano and the lake. Warung Good Karma El Lago Kintamani Coffee Paperhills Volcano Restoran Shallot’s warung makanFind all locations in our Google MapsFind in our Google MapsWhere to Stay in BaturWe’d recommend staying at least one night in the Batur area so that you can recover from the sunrise hike and fully relax in the wonderful natural surroundings. There are plenty of accommodation options around the lake, depending on your budget and taste, from hotels and villas to glamping. You’ll find most in the district of Remember, it can be challenging to get around if you don’t have transportation, as the mountainous terrain is not that walkable. However, if you book a trekking tour of Mount Batur, most companies will pick you up and drop you off at your accommodation. Taken at Cliff PanoramaGetting AroundThe easiest option is to rent a scooter or a car. This will give you much more freedom and flexibility, particularly if you want to stay for a night or two. Scooters can be rented daily for as little as 50,000 IDR USD. How Much Does Batur Cost?Like the rest of Bali, prices are reasonable here, so you won’t break the bank exploring this beautiful Time to Visit BaturThe best time to visit Batur is during the dry season from April-October, when you have a better chance of getting the best views at the summit of Mount Batur. This mountainous area of Bali is much colder, especially at night, so remember to bring warm layers and a jacket for those cool early mornings. However, when a warm spring flows into the bathing pool, it decreases in water temperature to around 37° – 40° Celsius.
